For the perfect summer mood, you need cliff hanger T20 cricket matches,  mangoes and a fun film so that you can invade the theatres with your friends, visiting relatives and pesky kids in tow. With Settai you can easily skip the other two. This film is a perfect, stand-alone mood enhancer.

UTV's remake of Delhi Belly lives up to all the hype about a roller coaster ride. The film works big time because of the terrific chemistry between Arya and Santhanam, something we saw in Boss Engira Bhaskaran. Premgi is a perfect foil for the other two, and comes up with a restrained but note worthy performance. The three are so good together that Arya's romance with Hansika and Anjali looks as though it needs a dash of spice. But then romance is only a fringe benefit in this comic caper.

JK (Arya) is a serious journalist who wants to highlight issues, but his editor cum publisher wants eye ball grabbing entertainment stories. JK's roommate Cheenu (Premgi) is a designer in the same paper.  Nadupakkam Nakki (Santhanam) joins the paper as a gossip columnist and moves in with them in their rundown Matunga flat. Madhu (Hansika Motwani) an air hostess, who is in love with JK unwittingly becomes a courier for diamonds being smuggled by Nasser. She asks JK to pass on the parcel, but he dumps the job on Nakki. But since Santhanam is down with an upset tummy, the job passes on to Cheenu who delivers the diamonds to the hospital lab and the stool sample to the smuggler. Naturally, all hell breaks loose at this point.

Over the years Vishal has emerged as the young action hero of Kollywood. And now the tall-dark hunk is back with yet another commercial pot boiler, Pattathu Yaanai, directed by Bhoopathy Pandian. Another highlight of the film is Aishwarya, action king Arjun's daughter, who is making a grand big screen entry with this flick. Here we take a look at the plot.

THE PLOT: Gouravam (Santhanam) is a well-known cook in Karaikudi, he ends up ion trouble when a local goon forces him to do the catering service for his wedding. Enter Saravanan (Vishal) along with his four friends, who works for Gouravam. After messing up the whole issue, Gouravam along with his team decides to leave Karaikudi and move to Trichy to open a restaurant. Will he succeed?

Well, that is one part of the story. On the other side, there are two local goons in Trichy, who fights each other for power and fame. And one of them eyes the pretty Aishu's (Aishwarya). Then there is Saravanan who falls for Aishu on the very first sight. And now the real action begins... Saravanan also has a painful past, so watch out to know more...

THE PERFORMANCE: Vishal is as usual good with the action scenes and in this flick he has also successfully tried comedy. But the same old predictable stories are getting clinched. It's high time that Vishal tries his hands on different genres and storylines. Arjun's daughter Aishwarya has made a successful launch but she will have to work hard on her emotions and body language. Santhanam's comedy is over the top in the first half but latter he hits the right note. The rest of the star cast has done their role well. Director Bhoopathy Pandian could have tweaked the screenplay a little bit to make the story more racy and interesting. Music by Thaman, Sabesh-Murali (BG) are average while Vaithy's camera works are good.

Story:

The film opens in Sudan, Africa, where Mariyaan (Dhanush) is on a two-year contract with a company and has just a week left to finish. He is very excited to get back to India, where the love of his life Panimalar (Parvathi Menon) is desperately waiting for him.

As Mariyaan reminisces about his love, we are taken in a flashback to a fishing community in southern India. Panimalar has been in love with Mariyaan for a very long time and though he does not reciprocate her feelings initially, he soon realises that he too has deep feelings for her.

Soon they form a bond so strong that it withstands all the struggles and hardships that life throws their way.

Panimalar’s father has borrowed money from Theekkurissi (Vinayakan), a lecherous moneylender who has designs on the beautiful Panimalar. He asks for her hand in marriage in return for the money borrowed. When her father refuses, he gives him an ultimatum and threatens to kill him if he does not repay the money.

Mariyaan is now in a dilemma. In order to repay the money, he is forced to accept the offer to work in a foreign company for two years. A fisherman at heart and soul, he is loath to leave, but makes the difficult decision for his precious Panimalar.

We are back in Africa now, where Mariyaan is all set to go back, but certain unfortunate circumstances prevent him from returning. How he reaches his love Panimalar, fighting against all odds forms the rest of the story.
